Congratulations to Maria 👏🏼

PROGRAM ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

I’m excited to share some incredible news from within our Hastings Family YMCA community. We recently had the pleasure of recognizing one of our own for outstanding contributions to one of our most vital programs—our Aquatics Department.

Please join me in congratulating Maria Urlacher, recipient of the Program Achievement of the Year Award!

Over the past four years, Maria has done far more than manage a program—she has truly redefined excellence within it. With exceptional leadership, a passion for aquatics, and an unwavering commitment to water safety and community engagement, Maria has transformed our aquatics offerings into one of the most impactful and inclusive programs we have at the YMCA.

Under her guidance, our aquatics program has grown tremendously—both in participation and in reach—serving individuals across all ages and abilities. Highlights of her accomplishments include:

  • Implementing dynamic, effective swim lesson curriculums
  • Raising lifeguard training standards
  • Creating specialized programs to support underserved populations

Despite the challenge of an eight-month pool closure, Maria’s leadership led to impressive results:

  • 731 participants in group swim lessons
  • 175 low-income children received free swim lessons through a YUSA grant she secured
  • 800 private swim lessons provided
  • 534 individuals certified in CPR
  • 200 lifeguard certifications awarded

Thanks to Maria’s vision and dedication, our YMCA has received the Red Cross Top Provider Award for two consecutive years.

Beyond the numbers, Maria’s impact is evident in the culture she’s built—a team of motivated, highly skilled staff members inspired by her energy and genuine care for each individual who comes through our doors. Her mentorship has played a critical role in our ongoing success, and we are proud to say that lifeguard shortages are a rarity at our YMCA.

We want to thank Maria for her remarkable contributions. She embodies the heart and mission of the YMCA, and we are truly grateful for all she accomplished.
