Frequently Asked Questions

What is Personal Training?

Personal training is one-on-one training with our knowledgable fitness staff geared to boost your current fitness level.

Can I train with a buddy?

We offer individual training sessions or group training sessions in half hour or one hour formats.

What does it cost?

Personal training expenses vary from trainer to trainer.  If you are a YMCA member, special discounted rates are available to you.  Rates will be based on choice of one-on-one training or group sessions with 2-5 people.

What's involved in a training session?

Everyone's session is different based upon the client's need and abilities.  Trainers are equiped with a wide variety of tools and resources to cater to your likes, dislikes, intensity level and fitness goal.  Whether you have a specific goal such as weight loss or strength building, or perhaps training for an upcoming race; we will motivate you to sweat harder, push further to accomplish this goal.  Your success is our success.

How often do I meet with my trainer?

You and your trainer will set up the frequency of training sessions based upon your personal schedule as well as the goal at hand.  Some people may opt to workout with a trainer once a week, while others may go everyday.  You and your trainer can discuss the options and which most benefs you.

What can I expect?

You can expect open communication between you and your trainer.  Your trainer will be looking at your current health habits. If areas need to be improved, your trainer may ask you to keep a food and exercise log.  Writing down your daily activities is one way to communicate with your trainer as well as hold you accountable each and every day.  In your training session, expect to be pushed out of your comfort zone.  If you have not done a certain activity in a while, you may be sore after your workouts.  Your trainer can discuss with you this process and as you increase your fitness level, symptoms such as soreness will subside.

How do I get started?

Once you have decided you want and need a personal trainer, call the Hastings Family YMCA to schedule an appointment.  Upon first visit, you and your trainer will discuss your goals and the ways to meet this goal.  We will look at your current fitness level, your current range of motion, as well as the activities you like to do.  After all, if you don't like your activity, most likely you will not continue it on a day-to-day basis.  We will find what you like to do and let it work to your best advantage.

Who will be my trainer?

We try to match you with your trainer taking in account the goal you have and when you need your training sessions.  Meet the trainers available to you.

My hometown is Alliance, NE, where I started my involvement with fitness through athletics. My success in track is what took me to Doane College, where I received a four year   scholarship. It was there, my passion for fitness and healthy lifestyle began.

I have been personal training and teaching classes for almost 4 years. I am an ACE certified Personal Trainer with a Major in Exercise Science and a Minor in Biology. The drive for my clients to embrace a new and active lifestyle has truly grown since I have started down this path. Whether one needs to lose some extra pounds or start to build muscle I would like to help you start your fitness journey.

Every person I have trained has taught me something different about what being “fit”      actually means. That is, learn to embrace who you truly are, actually believe that every person is different, and finally take control over what you do in your life.

I have been a member of the YMCA for many years and fell in love with living a fit life. I began as an inactive mother of 4 children then decided to start running as a challenge to myself. What started as a goal to run my first 5k ended up as a goal to run a marathon within a year. Since that first marathon, I have run three more full marathons and other shorter races along the way.

Meeting my own personal goals and watching others inspired me to become a fitness instructor with the YMCA. For the past 3 years, I have taught cycling, FIT, HIIT, Insanity, and more. I have multiple fitness certifications. I love challenging my classes to push harder everyday - helping them to see we are all stronger than we realize! I believe that everyone can meet their fitness goals with lots of encouragement and accountability.

I am now thrilled to begin my Personal Training journey. Training for your fitness goals can be fun and challenging. Whether you are new to fitness or more experienced, I believe in options for every fitness level. From the young athlete to the active older adult, lets work together for a fitter, healthier you!
